Monique Vermont is the Founder, Director, Choreographer and Artistic Manager
for The Art of Dance. Monique has been involved professionally in the
theatrical arts for over 37 years. She began her career at age nine in the
Warner Bros. Musical, "The Music Man," (opposite Ron Howard) and has been on
the stage with such stars as Marcelle Marceaux and Robin Williams.
Her extensive training includes the renowned George Balanchine's New York
City Ballet and the American Conservatory Theatre's Stanislovsky Method of
Drama in San Francisco. Her degrees include a Bachelor of Arts in Theater
and Communication / Emphasis Education, Associates of Arts in Dance
Education with Honors in Humanities and Early Childhood Development. Of her
many qualifications, Ms. Monique's most recent teaching certificate comes
from Marcia Dale Weary's Central Pennsylvania's Youth Ballet.
Ms. Monique's credits on stage and screen are many, and her more than 37
years experience teaching professionally has brought to fruition the most
important purpose that she shares daily with her students: Dance is more
than physical; it is mental and spiritual. Ms. Monique feels honored to
share her knowledge and expertise with the next generation, from the
introduction of dance to guiding our youth all the way up to a professional
career, if so chosen. Her students have been accepted locally at Governor's
School, Todd Rossenlieb's Junior Dance Company, and offered scholarships at
such local colleges as Old Dominion University. The Art of Dance Theatre and
Academy has been established in Norfolk, VA since the year 2000 and it is
Ms. Monique's dream to continue to mentor this area's children, their
children, and grandchildren.
